Welcome to my January Newsletter…

50% Obesity Warning

It’s January and diet companies are bombarding you with ‘because it works’ adverts; Lidl are dropping chocolate and sweet snacks from their checkouts; the food industry is in a frenzy of smoke and mirrors stuff, trying to disguise how much sugar is in virtually everything they make… and the government launches a healthy eating campaign promoted not by healthy fit role models, but by er, plasticine figures…!

Well actually – ‘it doesn’t work’… dieting that is… All supermarkets sell enough rubbish to satisfy the nurtured cravings of every youngster out there… the food industry is just that – an industry, and it doesn’t in reality give a flying fig… biscuit… as long as it sells, and the plasticine figures symbolise the resolve of a government in the pockets of the multinationals.

ALL the credible informed research out there, and that endorsed by NICE the board for clinical execellence, points to lifestyle change as the key to losing weight, and to psychological change as the driver to turn that key! So if at this time of weight loss frenzy and newbies in the gym, use your head and see behind the smoke and mirrors. If you choose to make change then make that decision right now and engage the help of a therapist.

Yes ‘he would say that wouldn’t he’ but I actually mean it. If it’s me you choose then great. If it’s someone else then great too! Just do it!

Weight Loss Transformation

New to my website is Weight Loss Transformation –  www.russellhoyles.com/virtual-gastric-band-weight-loss

Here you can not only read and see a truly inspirational story but you can create a vision of the slimmer you that 2014 will bring. We have added a programme to the site that allows you to import your face and to then ‘slim down’ the image of yourself. This could be particularly useful to clients who find the visualisation element difficult.

Anxiety, Depression and Issues of Self Esteem?

If you are experiencing anxiety, depression, feelings of low self esteem, a lack of confidence, perhaps even anger, you are not alone. Many find that the festive period followed by the new year and ‘January Blues’ a difficult time. There are effective approaches to addressing these very common presentations. I favour a mind management approach that will initially enable you to understand the processes at work, and to then manage the feelings and impressions your emotional mind offers you. I can show you how you can manage these ‘offerings’, for that’s what they are… You don’t have to accept them, and you can start looking forward to a different future.

As we go forward into 2014 have optimism that you can feel better, be more confident, and can lift those dark clouds. For an informal chat just call me. It costs nothing and could be the start of a brighter future!

Bariatric Support Group

Thanks to Helen Batty who has invited me to attend a Fylde Coast support group for people who have had Bariatric surgery. As I understand it, the people who attend this group have had various proceedures, band, sleeve, pouch etc and quite typically the experience has been both rewarding and challenging. Even for those who have lost lots of weight post surgery the impact of the change can throw up many issues such as adjustment, identity, and self confidence.  This is an area of great interest to me and I am looking forward to initially atttending and ‘joining’ with the group and perhaps later doing some sessions.

My first meeting with the group is in February and I will post feedback afterwards.

And finally… It’s a busy time of the year. If you are considering embarking on a programme with me please do book in now or if you know someone who may benefit please forward this newsletter on.
