Eating and Social Pressure
Continuing a theme, so to speak… Eating and Social Pressure : Christmas has its own pressures around food, but I am increasingly aware from my clients that quite often behaviour around food is shaped by a person’s expectations of the response they will get when seeking to change the way they eat. Typically people are not aware of this until we discuss and reflect on why they might eat more than they knowingly need at a family gathering, at a social event, or even in the regular working week. People anticipate that they will quite often be perceived negatively, as being ‘funny’ or ‘rude’ in declining food offered or in ‘not letting go and joining in’. Given this I am quite regularly offering a session which uses a concept of protecting yourself from negatives… from real or perceived negative reactions of others. I show my clients through visualistion and in hypnotic experience rehearsal, that they can continue to feel good when asserting themselves and by simply ‘throwing back where they came from’ any negatives as belonging to the source… not themselves. ”Liberating” and ”amazing impact” have been two of many comments in response.
So if you are thinking your behaviour… around food or anything else… is shaped by the anticipation you have around making change then contact me!
Remember : Don’t be a cow – You don’t have to follow the herd! Just because
everyone else is doing it/eating it/gorging themselves on it… doesn’t
mean you have to. Social pressures are hard, but only if you let them
get to you…
